LAST WEEK, JOHNSON SAYS JBS SENT NOTICES TO 200 EMPLOYEES FROM HAITI AND CUBA THAT THEIR WORK VISAS ARE REVOKED. THEIR EMPLOYMENT AT JBS IS TERMINATED IMMEDIATELY AND THEY HAVE TO GET OUT OF THE COUNTRY IMMEDIATELY. More than 200 employees of an Ottumwa meat processing plant will be deported, the city's mayor says.The United Food & Commercial Workers Local 1149 confirms that between 210 and 220 employees at Ottumwa's JBS plant were informed that their visas have been revoked and their employment terminated. A Local 1149 official said this is the largest termination of visa workers in his 23 years with the union.During a city council meeting last week, Ottumwa Mayor Rick Johnson said JBS sent notices to employees from Haiti and Cuba that their work visas are revoked and they must leave the country.He said he is not sure if more terminations and deportations will happen.
