6 years later, still no arrests in Evansdale girls' murders
It’s been six years since the bodies of Evansdale cousins Lyric Cook-Morrissey and Elizabeth Collins were found in a wildlife area of Bremer County, and investigators have made no arrests in connection with their murders.
The girls disappeared July 13, 2012, while riding bikes in Evansdale near a popular recreational lake in the middle of town. Investigators found their bikes and a pink purse near the lake hours later, but no sign of the girls.
Hunters found the girls’ bodies Dec. 5, 2012, in the Seven Bridges Wildlife Park in Bremer County, about 25 miles from where they were last seen.
Federal authorities and Evansdale police said the suspect is likely familiar with Evansdale and saw a window of opportunity to kidnap and kill the two girls. Investigators said the murderers may also have attempted to abduct children in the past and may have tried to change their appearance after the girls’ deaths.
