$60.3M bond issue for criminal court building to go before Dallas County voters on Nov. 4
Voters in Dallas County will once again vote on funding a new court building.
The supervisors unanimously agreed on Tuesday to put a $60.3 million bond referendum on the Nov. 4 ballot.
The same measure to build and furnish a new criminal court building failed in 2024.
Then, voters opposed it, with 51% saying no. To pass, the measure must get at least 60% of voters' approval.
The price tag is now about 4% more expensive.
That's an increase from $56.9 million in 2024 to more than $60.3 million now.
County leaders say it's needed to address matters like security, accessibility, technology and efficiency for a growing county.
Current plans call for a three-story building in Adel. It would house two courtrooms, offices and meeting spaces.
The current Dallas County courthouse would remain. It would hold civil law, family law, divorce and foreclosure court proceedings.
