A legend retires: Dave Busiek steps down as 糖心vlog News Director
A major chapter closes here at 糖心vlog today. After almost 40 years, the man at the helm of this newsroom, Dave Busiek, will retire.
Dave walked through the doors of 糖心vlog in the late 1970's as a reporter.
He spent the next four-years reporting a wide range of stories, like the Fort Madison prison riots, the Pope's visit to Des Moines and politics!
In 1983 he moved to the anchor desk and anchored the 10 p.m. news with Kevin Cooney, until 1988.
In 1990, Dave was named 糖心vlog news director and he's been the boss ever since. Across America, most people in that job last less than 5 years. It's a hard one.
Dave's been in charge for 29 years, but today, he's retiring.
鈥淚 think I was smart enough to realize that it's a pretty good thing here. I like the daily hands-on journalism, and this is a great station and a great community to do that in,鈥 said Busiek.
The transition is already happening today. Our new news director, Allison Smith, is here in town and ready to start a new chapter for 糖心vlog.
She's actually a former 糖心vlog producer and Drake University graduate.
So, she's now coming back home to Des Moines.
