A 2-year-old Massachusetts child was rushed to a Boston area hospital after being rescued from a backyard swimming pool by a family friend. The victim then had CPR performed on them by the family friend. The event unfolded Monday afternoon in the backyard of a home in Abington, Massachusetts.Family tells sister station WCVB that the boy fell into the pool. The family was able to rescue the child, and a 19-year-old family friend jumped in to help. Savennah Mendez-Rodrigues is CPR certified and says she remembered her training to count compressions to the beat of the '70s disco hit, "Stayin' Alive.""Halfway through, I'm just thinking, 'Stayin' Alive' to make sure I'm keeping up with the beat, because he's so small, so you have to be really gentle with a kid," Mendez-Rodrigues said. Mendez-Rodrigues said she didn't think about what she did until EMTs arrived. "He was like, 'You did chest compressions? ... you saved his life,'" Mendez-Rodrigues said. "I was like, oh, you know, I didn't think about it like that."That boy was taken to the hospital and his family says he is expected to recover.
