MAVERICK CREWS SPENT THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS REBRANDING THE STORE AND ITS COMPUTER SYSTEMS. MAVERICK BOUGHT COME AND GO BACK IN 2023, AND IT’S TAKEN A WHILE TO RENAME 90 STORES ACROSS IOWA SINCE THEN. SO FAR, THE ONLY OUTSIDE MAVERICK SIGNS ARE ON THE GAS PUMPS. THEY SAY IT WILL BE A COUPLE OF MONTHS BEFORE THE LARGE COME AND GO SIGNS ARE REPLACED. LONGTIME CUSTOMERS ARE CURIOUS ABOUT THE CHANGE. NEVER HEARD OF THE MAVERICKS BEFORE. I WENT TO THE COME AND GO HERE, YOU KNOW, ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK, MAYBE, DEPENDING ON THE TIME OF YEAR. AND JUST INTERESTING TO SEE WHAT THEY HAVE TO OFFER COMPARED TO COME AND GO. THE NEW ADAIR MAVERICK HELD A SOFT OPENING WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON, AND CUSTOMERS GOT THEIR FIRST LOOK AT THE NEW STORE. AND NO SURPRISE, IT LOOKS A LOT LIKE A TYPICAL CONVENIENCE STORE. I MEAN, I THINK IT WILL TAKE A LITTLE TIME, BUT SHOULDN’T BE A PROBLEM. YOU GET USED TO IT, YOU’LL GET USED TO IT. YEAH. IT BEGAN SELLING MERCHANDISE AND FUEL IN THE 1960S. ACCORDING TO MAVERICK’S WEBSITE, THE NEXT LOCATION MAKING THE CHANGE IN CENTRAL IOWA IS IN STUART. IT’S CLOSED RIGHT NOW. IT WILL REOPEN FRIDAY. "It is going to be weird because, you know, I'm always like, hey, you want to run to the Kum and Go? You want to wait? Hold on. It's going to be something different," she said.Carman Carlentine, who runs the Dairy Sweet behind the new Maverik, shared similar sentiments. "Well, it's extremely weird, as it's been Kum & Go for as long as I can remember," Carlentine said. "So it's going to be a very big change, I think locally for everybody."Maverik crews have spent the past few days rebranding the store and updating its computer systems. Maverik acquired Kum & Go in 2023, and the process of renaming 90 stores across Iowa has been ongoing. Currently, the only Maverik signs visible are on the gas pumps, with larger outdoor signs expected to be replaced in the coming months. Long-time customers are curious about the change.Cody Moreland, a local resident, said, "Never heard of the Mavericks before. I went to the Kum & Go here, you know, once or twice a week, maybe, depending on the time of year.
