A Texas assisted living facility got creative with their time in quarantine, now going into five months of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions.Residents at Wesley House Assisted Living have a monthly happy hour with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinking options, and activity director Susie Castillo came up with the idea for it to be tattoo themed."The tattoo idea came from me planning this month's happy hour and thinking, wow, (we're) already in August, this is crazy!" Castillo said. "We're going crazy! So I thought what is something crazy that people do when they drink? Get tattoos!!"The tattoos are temporary, but the photos posted on Wesley House Assisted Living's Facebook on Friday have gotten a lot of attention, with more than 27,000 likes and 100,000 shares as of Monday afternoon.Castillo said it's been a challenge keeping 30 residents happy and entertained with the restrictions, but she's done her best to try to be creative with it."I have to really think outside the box sometimes to make sure everyone enjoys the activities we can still have," she said.Other recent activities they've done include having an ice cream parlor with chef-prepared banana splits and a farmer's market."We also celebrated Christmas in July where we went down the halls playing Christmas music with a decorated tree and gave all residents a gift and Christmas cookies," Castillo said. "I've dressed as Santa Claus and a cow on ice cream days. We are doing our best to keep our residents happy and have been extremely lucky to keep them COVID free!"
