Ballet Des Moines launches inclusive 'Ballet Without Barriers' program
Ballet Des Moines is launching "Ballet Without Barriers," a program aimed at making the arts more accessible.

Descriptions will be offered for each performance in the 2025-26 season, with recorded narratives providing visually impaired or blind audience members information on the performances, including movements, costumes, and sets. Written descriptions of the music will be available for hearing-impaired individuals.
Ballet Des Moines will hold a sensory-friendly performance of "The Nutcracker" on December 12. The show starts at 10:30 a.m. at Hoyt Sherman Place. During the performance, there will be no flashing or strobe lights, house lights will not be completely dark, and an American Sign Language interpreter will be available.
"Ballet Without Barriers" is led by a new Accessibility Committee to ensure the company continues to be inclusive.
