Ben Affleck wants to keep playing Batman

If Warner Bros. will have him

It emerged on Friday that Batfleck's days in the DC Cinematic Universe could be numbered, with Warner Bros reportedly planning to quietly phase Ben Affleck out of the role. But Affleck himself still sounds happy to stick around.Affleck told EW that his status is unchanged, and "certainly, if the Batphone rings, I will answer." His decision to step down from directing duties on The Batman came out of his love for the character, rather than the opposite. "It's such a big job, in terms of the stunts and the suit and the action and the character. Trying to do that, and direct, would probably be too much. Something would be compromised. I think it came off, optically, to the broader world, like lack of interest or enthusiasm. When in fact I love this character."So while Matt Reeves has taken over as director—and scrapped the Affleck-penned script for what will be the first standalone Batman movie since The Dark Knight Rises—Affleck has no plans to step back further. "I'd love to as long as they'll have me," he said. "Eventually it'll be somebody else, and I'm sure they'll get somebody great. But while I'm doing it, I'm going to do the best job I can, and really appreciate how lucky I am."Affleck's Batman will return just in time to be wildly upstaged by Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman in Justice League later this year.
