The Hawkeyes are in the middle of the summer grind. And man, is it a grind.Ben McCollum brought his high-intensity workouts with him from Drake, and it was a shock to some of the players' systems."It was big wake-up call for the new guys," said MVC Player of the Year Bennett Stirtz. "We had a lot of pukers on the first day. It was a fun first day."Stirtz is one of six Iowa players that played at Drake last season. Kael Combs is one of those six, but even he couldn't get past the workout without incident. "I did puke," he laughed. "I didn't eat breakfast, so I will blame that. I was fine until we started doing our finisher at the end, then I puked and that was that."Stirtz, Combs, Isaia Howard, Tavion Banks, Cam Manyawu and Joey Matteoni all played for McCollum before, and that is a huge advantage when it comes to how productive this summer has been."It speeds up the learning process," McCollum said. "How competitive they are and how they can teach the other guys how to compete, and just learning the system, what we do, how we interact. It speeds it up quite a bit, so you're able to scrimmage a lot more. We've been getting after each other, which is good.""I think we got a head start against other teams in the Big Ten and the country, just because we got six guys on the team," Stirtz said. "But we're all bonding together and hanging out. It's not just the six Drake guys."
