Des Moines man charged with assault for attacking protest group
A Des Moines man is facing charges after investigators say he damaged signs and assaulted a woman during a protest earlier this month.
According to Des Moines police, Bradley Jay Nall, 68, was driving his vehicle on the 56th Street bridge over Interstate 235 on Aug. 12. Police say he stopped his vehicle on the bridge and climbed over a railing onto the sidewalk and "aggressively approached" a group of protesters with the goal of tearing down signs they had placed.
Nall pushed a sign one woman was holding, striking her in the head, according to investigators, before tearing down other signs and damaging them.
Police say the assault was recorded on video and shared with investigators.
Nall is charged with assault and fifth-degree criminal mischief. He was not yet listed in Polk County Jail as of noon Wednesday.
