Overnight, California's governor signed into law *** plan for voters to decide whether to approve *** redrawn congressional map. It would give Democrats 5 more winnable seats in the US House next year. Now this all comes after the Texas House advanced its own redrawn map, giving Republicans *** chance for 5 more winnable seats in 2026. The proposal needs *** final vote in the Republican-controlled state Senate, which is scheduled to meet again today. President Donald Trump has pushed for the mid-decade revision of congressional maps to give his party *** better. Chance at holding on to the House of Representatives in the 2026 midterm elections. Now there is talk of *** potential domino effect, and we are seeing *** battle between Texas and California, but other states could be next. President Trump has mentioned other Republican-controlled states like Indiana and Missouri should also revise their maps to add more winnable GOP seats. Ohio Republicans were also already scheduled to revise their maps to make them more partisan. We're responding to what occurred in Texas. We're neutralizing what occurred and we're giving the American people *** fair chance. I want us to maintain *** Republican majority and hopefully increase *** Republican majority in the US Congress, and that's my purpose for being, uh, willing to carry this map. Democrats are also talking about reopening Maryland and New York's maps for mid-decade reviews at the White House. I'm Rachel Herzheimer.
