City social media post in search of googly eye vandal goes viral
Leaders in Savannah, Georgia, are keeping their eyes peeled for a vandal who has been gluing googly eyes onto historic statues.The "City of Savannah Government" Facebook page posted Thursday about the criminal activity and posted pictures of the googly-eyed statue of Nathanael Greene, who a major general in the American Revolutionary War.“It may look funny but harming our historic monuments and public property is no laughing matter,” the city wrote. “In fact, it's a crime.”Many people seem to disagree with the severity of the crime, since the Facebook post has gone viral, with more than 16,000 likes, 30,000 shares and 8,000 comments as of Sunday evening.A lot of people seemed to leer in response, posting opinions and humorous remarks into the post’s Facebook comments.“I'm not a part of this community or anything, but you guys do realize you just dared your entire city to googly eyes all of your monuments right?” said Greg Lamb. “Just pick the eyes off and move on.”Mandy McManus wrote a sarcastic comment about the matter.“I always wanted to visit Savannah, but now that I see how unsafe it is, no thanks!” she said. “I’ll consider it once they catch this psychopath. Is the FBI involved yet?”There’s no word on whether any suspects have been apprehended in the sticky situation.
