Kansas City Fire Department crews responded to an area near Indian Creek around 1 p.m. Monday to rescue a woman who had been swept into the water. When they arrived, a woman was clinging to branches as water quickly flowed around her. Fire officials said she was approximately 50-75 yards away from the bank. Crews eventually were able to take a raft out and safely bring the woman to land. Firefighters assisted her out of the raft, and she walked away from the floodwaters with their support. Fire officials said she was tired and shaken but not hurt. She was evaluated but declined further treatment or transport to a hospital. "The tiniest little branch ever. But I positioned myself behind one of the bigger trees out there to block the rushing water from actually hitting me full-on," the woman said.
