Clive pours millions into parks, roads as city launches special census
Clive is accelerating investments in parks, roads and public facilities as city leaders point to steady population growth — particularly in single-family housing — as the driver behind the spending push.
Major projects now underway include the $10.6 million Greenbelt Landing, a $3 million reconstruction of Clive’s portion of Alice’s Road, and a $5 million overhaul at Linnan Park. While the price tags may seem steep for one of the metro’s smaller suburbs, officials say they are necessary to keep pace with demand for quality-of-life amenities and infrastructure.
“Clive continues to be a growing community,” said City Manager Matt McQuillen, noting rising needs tied to that growth. He said the city is “excited to move forward” with renovations that prioritize safety and security while modernizing the work environment.
On Thursday, the City Council also approved a $1.2 million renovation of City Hall focused on security upgrades and workplace improvements.
At the same time, the city launched an online special census to update Clive’s population count, which is key to securing federal dollars, including Road Use Tax Funds that support street improvements. The U.S. Census Bureau has sent internet self-response materials to residents in areas that have experienced recent development.
Residents in the designated census area are asked to complete the online questionnaire by Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2025. . Households in the census area will receive four rounds of instructions. Those who do not respond online by the deadline should expect a visit from a Census Bureau field representative.
To see if your address is included, check the special census map on the city’s website. Once you have your code, use the Census Bureau’s special census portal to complete the form. City officials say participation will help guide decisions on programs, services and infrastructure that residents rely on.
