The viral milk crate challenge is TikTokās latest trend, but as much as you THINK you may know how to conquer this dangerous feat, you may want to think again as itās caused more harm than good. Letās get into it. The popular saying goes, āthereās no crying over spilled milk,ā but within about 60 seconds of opening the TikTok app, youāll quickly find that thereās actually a LOT of crying over spilled milk crates happening.Ā Thatās right, the newest viral āchallengeā has taken the Internet, as well as hospitals by storm after many attempt to put their best foot forward only to end up with their worst injury lying dead ahead. In case you donāt know what weāre talking about, this challenge, which was reportedly first showcased on Facebook, later making its way to TikTok, garnering a collective 15.3 million views, involves stacking plastic milk crates ascending like stairs in which challengers have to climb each of them up and back down without taking a tumble.Ā Annnnd letās just say, people are failing miserably⦠so much so that many are even ending up with severe injuries.Ā Multiple people have failed on the first few steps alone, while some are on their descent back down and just canāt seem to contain their balance. Despite the fact that one Houston woman, whoās gone viral, put literally everyone to shame AND while wearing heels, this challenge is not for the faint of heart, and quite literally could land you in the hospital. This twitterĀ user stated, āICUs filling up. Half COVID patients. Half milk crate challenge victims.ā Another person shared a meme, with the caption āThem insurance companies watching yāall do the milk crate challenge like-ā Unsurprisingly, medical experts are highly advising milk crate participants against partaking in this harmful stunt. Dr. Shawn Anthony, an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine at Mount Sinai in New York told the Today Show QUOTE, āThe Milk Crate Challenge is very dangerous, and we are seeing many orthopedic injuries as a result of the falls.āĀ He added, āInjuries can include broken wrists, shoulder dislocations, ACL and meniscus tears, as well as life-threatening conditions like spinal cord injuries.ā Some celebrities have weighed in on the challenge, poking fun at the mindless trend, including Snoop Dogg, who made a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live with guest host Stephen A. Smith when he commentated one challenge, and Iām not gonna lie: his play-by-play had me rolling on the ground, but not as hard as this dude:Ā Ā āDont⦠nuh uh uh, them shoes is too big for this situation. They too big! When heās startinā to shake, you know itās gonna break. OH!ā Mark Ruffalo also joked that his Marvel character The Hulk refuses to partake in the milk crate challenge due to his hatred of stairs.Ā All jokes aside, although it may be entertaining to watch, this challenge is extremely dangerous and should be taken with caution (and maybe some full protective gear) should you choose to take the plungeā¦Ā For the latest TikTok trend that has proven to be harmful to your health, click right over here for another Clevver video. The latest internet "challenge" involves milk crates and serious pain.In "The Milk Crate Challenge," started recently on TikTok, someone gathers a bunch of milk crates and stacks them as high as they can, then attempts to step up one side and down the other without the crates faltering underneath them. Many people don't succeed and fail in cringe-inducing ways, tumbling to the ground and knocking milk crates over on the way, injuring their bodies in the process. Now, thanks to Conan O'Brien, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has weighed in.O'Brien tweeted about the challenge on Monday, quipping that he will not do it until the FDA approves it."Waiting for FDA approval before I take the Milk Crate Challenge," he joked, playing off of this week's FDA approval of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. The official account for the FDA replied to O'Brien, writing that they "can't recommend" the challenge, and also, please think about returning all those crates to the grocery store."Although we regulate milk, we can't recommend you try that. Perhaps enjoy a nice glass of 2% and return all those crates to the grocery store?" the tweet read.Despite the discouragement, people are still attempting the dangerous challenge and getting hurt, sparking one Virginia orthopedic surgeon to warn against the stunt at a time when emergency rooms and medical personnel are overwhelmed with COVID patients.Like the "Tide Pod Challenge" of 2018 that resulted in calls to poison control centers and laundry pods removed from shelves, the obviously risky "The Milk Crate Challenge" will also come to an end ā and hopefully before anyone else is wounded.
