Zoomies unleashed: Central Iowa corgis show off their speed in races at Smash Park
A FLUFFY AND FUN COMPETITION WAS HELD TODAY INVOLVING THESE CUTE GUYS. I MEAN, LOOK AT HOW SHORT THEY ARE. vlog PHOTOJOURNALIST JOSH PAYNE SHOWS US THE ANNUAL CORGI CUP AT SMASH PARK IN WEST DES MOINES. ON YOUR MARK, GET SET. GO! ALL RIGHT. WE HAVE OUR ANNUAL CORGI CUP RACES. WE’RE GOING TO TAKE THE TOP THREE DOGS FROM THOSE INITIAL FIVE HEATS, AND THEY’LL MOVE ON TO LIKE THE QUARTERFINALS. AND THEN WE’LL TAKE THE TOP THREE DOGS FROM THOSE HEATS. THEY MOVE ON TO THE SEMIFINALS, AND THEN THE TOP DOG FROM EACH OF THE SEMIFINAL HEATS MAKES THE FINALS, AND WE’LL HAVE THREE DOGS RACING FOR FIRST PLACE AT THE END. IT’S ALWAYS FUN TO BE ABLE TO DO STUFF WITH YOUR DOGS BECAUSE THEY’RE PART OF YOUR FAMILY TOO, SO IT’S GREAT TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT AS WELL. THE CORGI IS MY FAVORITE BY FAR BECAUSE THEY’RE SO QUIRKY AND THEIR LITTLE LEGS LIKE IT’S JUST UNMATCHED. I JUST LOVE SEEING ALL OF THESE HAPPY DOG OWNERS OUT HERE TOGETHER AND THRIVING WITH OUR CORGIS. NOTHING MAKES ME HAPPIER. CORGIS HAVE A TON OF PERSONALITY AND THEY’RE SUPER SMART, SO VERY TRAINABLE. SO A LOT OF FUN BECAUSE THEY ARE QUICK TO PICK UP TRICKS. IN LANE NUMBER TWO, WE’RE IN THE BLUE BANDANA. WE’VE GOT HAMILTON CHURRO RACED LAST YEAR AND IT CAME DOWN TO A PHOTO FINISH AT THE FINALS. BUT SHE WON BY A NOSE, LITERALLY BECAUSE YOUR NOSE HAD TO CROSS THE LINE FIRST. I HAD NO IDEA THERE WERE THAT MANY CORGIS IN CENTRAL IOWA. THAT’S TERRIFIC. YEAH, MY FAVORITE THERE WAS IN THE BEGINNING OF THAT PIECE. THE FIRST RACE, WON, WENT LIKE SIDEWAYS AND THEN WAS STILL ABLE IT LOOKED LIKE TO GET ACROSS THE FINISH LINE IN TIME, SCORE.

But the cute corgis showed plenty of speed — and personality — through several heats. She said they may not be the fastest dogs, but they make up for it in personality and intelligence.“Corgis have a ton of personality, and they’re super smart — so very trainable. A lot of fun because they are quick to pick up tricks,” she said.“(Churro) loves to chase balls. So we have a soccer ball. Both of my kids were soccer players, and she will play — chase the soccer ball and bring it back to you.
