IT’S HARD TO KEEP GOING ON KNOWING THAT SHE’S NOT HERE NO MORE. IT’S BEEN A LITTLE OVER A YEAR SINCE 34 YEAR OLD COURTNEY MONDAY GONZALEZ WAS SHOT AND KILLED AT ASHWORTH PARK. HER MOTHER AND SISTER SAY THEY MISS HER EVERY SINGLE DAY. IF YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND UNTIL YOU LOSE A CHILD. I MEAN, LOSE A CHILD. THAT’S JUST SOMETHING I CAN’T EXPLAIN. POLICE SAY GONZALEZ WAS AT ASHWORTH PARK TO PICK UP HER SON. AN ARGUMENT BROKE OUT IN A LARGE CROWD OF KIDS AND YOUNG ADULTS, AND SEVERAL PEOPLE STARTED SHOOTING. ONE OF THOSE SHOTS HIT MANDY GONZALEZ. NO ARRESTS HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE CASE. THERE’S CASES THAT GO UNSOLVED, AND I JUST PRAY THAT MY SISTER ISN’T ONE OF THEM. DES MOINES POLICE SAY THE INVESTIGATION IS COMPLEX BECAUSE OF HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE THERE THAT NIGHT. BUT SERGEANT PAUL PARIZEK SAYS THE CASE IS FAR FROM COLD. WE’VE MADE GOOD PROGRESS AND WE’VE GOT A GOOD DIRECTION, AND THAT’S WHERE WE’RE GOING TO KEEP MOVING. PARIZEK SAYS INVESTIGATORS ARE WORKING HARD, BUT THEY’VE HAD TO OVERCOME SOME OBSTACLES. WE’VE HAD A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT AREN’T FORTHCOMING THAT WON’T TELL US THE TRUTH. AND AND THAT MAKES IT HARD FOR OUR INVESTIGATORS. HE SAYS THEY KNOW THE SUSPECTS WERE IN THAT CROWD. PARIZEK SAYS INVESTIGATORS ARE DEDICATED TO THE CASE AND WON’T STOP WORKING UNTIL THEY GET JUSTICE FOR THE FAMILY. THEY’RE ALWAYS GOING TO CARRY THIS WEIGHT AROUND OF THE LOSS. It's been a little over a year since 34-year-old Courtany Mundy-Gonzalez was shot and killed at Ashworth Park in Des Moines. The family says they are still waiting for answers.Mundy-Gonzalez was at Ashworth Park to pick up her son in the early morning on June 2, 2024. There was a large crowd of kids and young adults. An argument broke out, and several people started shooting. One of those shots hit Mundy-Gonzalez. Several other people in the crowd were also shot. Ariel Crawford, Mundy-Gonzalez's sister, said she misses her sibling every single day."It's hard to keep going and knowing that she's not here no more," Crawford said. "There's cases that go unsolved, and I just pray that my sister's isn't one of them."Des Moines police said the investigation is complex because of how many people were there that night. Police have yet to make an arrest in the case. Sgt. Paul Parizek said the case is far from cold."We've made good progress, and we've got good direction, and that's where we're going to keep moving," Parizek said. Parizek said investigators are working hard, but they've had to overcome some obstacles. He said they know the suspects were in that crowd."We've had a lot of people that aren't forthcoming," he said. "They won't tell us the truth, and that makes it hard for investigators."Parizek said investigators won't stop until they get justice for the family.The mother of Mundy-Gonzalez, Robyn Mundy, said she won't stop until she finds answers."I need closure, and till the day I die, I'm not going to stop," Mundy said. "Every day, it's really hard for me."The family is asking anyone with information to come forward. If you were there that night and have yet to talk to police, call the Des Moines Police Department.
