It’s been over 125 years since the historical cowboy roamed the Wild West. Despite this, cowboy culture remains relevant due to its impact on national identity through music, fashion and lifestyle.
Most notably, cowboy poetry and music have influenced Western and Country music genres, however the effects of the Wild West are far-reaching.
Beyoncé was influenced by Western music when writing “Cowboy Carter,” inspiring fans to match the cowboy aesthetic on tour. Chappell Roan named herself after the song “The Strawberry Roan,” written by cowboy Curley Fletcher.
The desire to be a cowboy even reached this reporter. In 1994, Kit Williams rhymed her way through cowboy poetry camp, where cowpoke waxed poetic about life lessons.
Watch the video above to see if the reporter was able to rhyme every time.
