WELL, A WEBSTER COUNTY DRUNK TRUCK DRIVER IS ALIVE TONIGHT, ALL THANKS TO A GOOD SAMARITAN WHO SAW HIM CRASH ON MONDAY. THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE STORY. vlog SENIOR REPORTER TODD MAGEL SPOKE WITH THE RESCUER, WHO SAYS HE WAS HAPPY TO HELP SAVE A LIFE. WE’RE IN WEBSTER COUNTY, JUST NORTH OF HIGHWAY 20 BETWEEN FORT DODGE AND WEBSTER CITY. AND ON MONDAY, THIS ROUTINE TRUCK ROUTE TURNED INTO A FIERY CRASH SCENE WHEN HE CROSSED THE CENTER LINE AND LOST CONTROL. HIT THE BRIDGE AND IT BASICALLY JUMPED THE DITCH IN THE CAB. ENDED UP RIGHT OVER HERE. WEBSTER COUNTY ROAD FOREMAN DALE ILES SAYS HE WAS SHOCKED TO SEE THE CRASH HAPPEN RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM, A SEMI TRUCK CRASHED AND OVERTURNED ON A RURAL BRIDGE OVER HOLIDAY CREEK. THE TRUCK BURST INTO FLAMES AND THE DRIVER WAS TRAPPED INSIDE. WHAT KIND OF A SHOCK WAS THAT WHEN THIS ALL HAPPENED? INSTANTLY, WHEN YOUR ADRENALINE KICKS IN, YOU, YOU DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. YOU JUST START ACTING. ILE STOPPED HIS TRUCK, RAN UP TO THE BURNING SEMI AND FOUND SMOKE. I JUST TOLD HIM THAT YOU’VE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND YOUR CAB IS ON FIRE. WE GOT TO GET YOU OUT OF HERE. CAN YOU CLIMB? I ALSO APPEARED TO BE IN SHOCK AND DIDN’T SAY ANYTHING, BUT WAS ABLE TO STAND UP. HE MADE IT TO SAFETY AS THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO BURN. THE SEMI EVENTUALLY TURNED OVER AND FELL INTO THE CREEK AND ANOTHER PASSING TRUCK DRIVER CALLED 911. I COULD SEE THE FIRE OFF TO THE SIDE OF US, SO IT WAS FAIRLY TALL, BUT MY MY CONCENTRATION WAS JUST TO GET HIM OUT OF THERE. HE IS NOW OUT OF THE HOSPITAL AND TOLD US ILES SAVED HIS LIFE. ILE SAYS HE’S HAPPY THE DRIVER IS OKAY. I WOULD DO IT OVER AGAIN.
