WHITE HOUSE. NEW AT 530. DES MOINES AREA COMMUNITY COLLEGE IS LAUNCHING A BRAND NEW SCHOLARSHIP. THE COLLEGE ANNOUNCED THE MAX OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP AT THE IOWA STATE FAIR THIS MORNING. DMACC SAYS THE AWARD WILL GO TOWARD HIGHLY MOTIVATED, LOW INCOME IOWANS. IT WILL COVER TUITION, BOOKS AND TOOLS NEEDED TO ATTEND DMACC. PRESIDENT ROB JENSEN SAYS THE SCHOLARSHIP IS FOR STUDENTS WHO WANT TO PURSUE A CAREER, BUT MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO AFFORD HIGHER EDUCATION. WE FOUND THE FORMULA TO HELP STUDENTS BE SUCCESSFUL. WE BELIEVE THAT TALENT IS EVERYWHERE, BUT OFTEN OPPORTUNITY IS NOT, AND WE WANT TO FILL THAT GAP. 35% OF OUR STUDENTS ARE LOW INCOME, AND WE KNOW THAT THOSE STUDENTS WHO ARE ABLE TO GET A DMACC SCHOLARSHIP ARE 30 PERCENTAGE POINTS MORE LIKELY TO COMPLETE THAN STUDENTS WHO DON’T.
