NEW AT NOON A DES MOINES RESTAURANT IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED AFTER A CAR WENT THROUGH THE FRONT OF ITS BUILDING. WE’RE TALKING ABOUT BASIC BIRD THAT’S ON BEAVER AVENUE. YOU CAN SEE HERE THAT THE DAMAGE THAT’S LEFT BEHIND AS CREWS ARE CLEANING UP THIS MORNING. POLICE DID SAY THE DRIVER HAD A MEDICAL CONDITION AND LOST CONTROL. THE RESTAURANT OWNER SHARED THAT NOBODY INSIDE WAS HURT. WE’RE REALLY JUST KIND OF PLAYING THINGS BY EAR RIGHT NOW AND TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE BUILDING PROCESS LOOKS LIKE. SO HOPEFULLY, YOU KNOW, GET THROUGH THIS WEEKEND, CLEAN IT UP. AND OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS, IT’LL JUST BE A PROCESS OF OF REBUILDING. A popular Beaverdale neighborhood restaurant is closed temporarily after a vehicle crashed through the front of the building.Basic Bird, located at 2607 Beaver Ave. in Des Moines, said in a post on its Facebook page Thursday afternoon that everyone was safe after the crash."We are so grateful everyone is safe, but a vehicle just drove through the front of our space," owners posted on the Basic Bird Facebook page. "We are closing to handle this however we can for tonight and will keep you updated on how we are going to move forward. Please keep an eye on how to support us in the days to come."Police told vlog that the driver had a medical condition that caused them to lose control of the vehicle. It's not yet known how long the restaurant will be closed for cleanup and repair, although owner Joe Tripp told vlog that he hopes to reopen next week.
