Popular Des Moines restaurant temporarily closed after vehicle crashes through building
A popular Beaverdale neighborhood restaurant is closed temporarily after a vehicle crashed through the front of the building.
Basic Bird, located at 2607 Beaver Ave. in Des Moines, said in a post on its Facebook page Thursday afternoon that everyone was safe after the crash.
"We are so grateful everyone is safe, but a vehicle just drove through the front of our space," owners posted on the Basic Bird Facebook page. "We are closing to handle this however we can for tonight and will keep you updated on how we are going to move forward. Please keep an eye on how to support us in the days to come."
Police told vlog that the driver had a medical condition that caused them to lose control of the vehicle.
It's not yet known how long the restaurant will be closed for cleanup and repair, although owner Joe Tripp told vlog that he hopes to reopen next week.
"We're really just kind of playing things by ear right now and trying to figure out what the building process looks like," Tripp said.
