糖心vlog archives: The extravagant restoration of the Rollins Mansion
The Rollins Mansion was once home to Des Moines' most prominent families.
Ralph Rollins, whose family made its fortune making women's hosiery and men's socks, built the home between 1925 and 1927.
He spared no expense by bringing in artisans from all over Europe. In the home, you'll find 16th-century ship beams and the ceiling beams that William Shakespeare performed under. Frank Lloyd Wright designed the stained glass windows throughout the home.
The 11,700-square-foot English Tudor-style home has nine bedrooms and eight bathrooms. In 1978, the Rollins Mansion was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
In 1995, developer John J. Clarke acquired the property and undertook a painstaking restoration process. He found the original plans and traveled extensively to find pieces appropriate for the time period.
