RIGHT NOW WE HAVE A MAJOR, MAJOR SLOWDOWN RIGHT NOW ON I-235 HEADING FROM THE EAST INTO DOWNTOWN IS LOOKING LIKE A 30 MINUTE DRIVE, WHICH IS USUALLY JUST FIVE MINUTES. THAT’S BECAUSE WE HAVE A CRASH BEING REPORTED ON I-235 AT SECOND AVENUE, JUST NEAR THE DES MOINES RIVER BRIDGE. THE PROBLEM IS HERE IS THAT CRASH IS IN THE CENTER LANE. SO ALL OF THAT MERGING TRAFFIC TRYING TO HEAD WEST REALLY HAS NOWHERE TO GO, CREATING A MAJOR SLOWDOWN. I’M GOING TO SHOW YOU GUYS WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE IN JUST A SECOND. ON THE MAP. BUT 3580 AT DOUGLASS YOU REMEMBER WE ALSO HAD THAT CRASH THAT IS NOW STARTING TO CLEAR. THINGS ARE LOOKING A LITTLE BIT BETTER, BUT THAT TRAFFIC, THAT RESIDUAL SLOWDOWN IS STILL HANGING OUT RIGHT NOW. SO WHETHER YOU ARE HEADING ON 3580 OR 235 RIGHT NOW, UNFORTUNATELY YOU’RE SEEING A SLOWDOWN IN BOTH DIRECTIONS. IT’S JUST GOING TO BE A LITTLE BIT OF A SLOW MORNING. PLEASE HAVE SOME PATIENCE ON THE ROAD AS OUR FIRST RESPONDERS RESPOND TO THOSE CRASHES, BECAUSE THEY ARE BOTH TWO REALLY BIG SITUATIONS THAT ARE GOING TO SLOW YOU DOWN. 8:00 a.m. Update: A crash on I-235 right near the Des Moines River Bridge is creating a huge slowdown for westbound travelers. It's currently a 30 minute commute from the East Mixmaster into downtown because a multi-vehicle crash is blocking the center lanes. You can see video of the delay on I-235 at the top of this story. A crash in the southbound lanes ono Interstate 35/80 at Douglas Avenue is creating a major delay for drivers heading toward the West Mixmaster. First responders are on the scene, directing traffic down to one lane.
