The campaign comes days after Democrats on the House Oversight Committee released a sexually suggestive birthday letter addressed to Jeffrey Epstein and purportedly signed by President Donald Trump. Trump has denied writing the letter, which appeared in a 2003 birthday album compiled for the wealthy financier and convicted sex offender.
The new ads, which will run across social media platforms in Iowaās 1st Congressional District, highlight Trumpās past friendship with Epstein and accuse Republicans of shielding the president from scrutiny.
āDonald Trump is hiding something, and Republicans in Congress are covering for him,ā DNC Chair Ken Martin said in a statement. āIf House Republicans canāt even stand up for the victims and survivors of a notorious sexual predator, if they wonāt even call out the president for a blatant government coverup, then how can their voters trust them?ā
Miller-Meeks pushed back. "We deserve transparency and honesty from our government," she said in a statement to ĢĒŠÄvlog. "For four years, Joe Biden and Democrats ignored the opportunity to deliver truth."
"I stand with President Trump in his efforts to ensure transparency into Jeffrey Epsteinās heinous crimes while protecting the victims who endured so much abuse," Miller-Meeks added.
This is not the first time Iowa Republicans have been targeted over the Epstein files. In July, the DNC ran a five-figure digital campaign against Reps. Ashley Hinson (IA-02) and Zach Nunn (IA-03), accusing them of helping bury documents that could reveal details about Epsteinās ties to powerful figures, including Trump.
Emily Tuttle, a spokeswoman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, argues Democrats are being hypocritical.
āDemocrats couldāve spent their four years under Joe Biden fighting for victims, but instead tanked the economy, endangered communities with pro-crime policies, and opened our borders to illegal criminals all while covering up Bidenās decline," Tuttle said in a statement to ĢĒŠÄvlog. "Republicans will not be lectured on transparency or accountability by the Democrat Party.ā
The renewed Democratic push follows Mondayās release of Epsteinās birthday album by the House Oversight Committee. The book included letters, signatures, and names of high-profile figures in a āfriendsā section, among them former President Bill Clinton and attorney Alan Dershowitz.
The letter bearing Trumpās name was framed by a hand-drawn outline of a curvaceous woman and read: āA pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday ā and may every day be another wonderful secret.ā
Trump has called the letter a forgery and filed a lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal for its earlier reporting on the document. āThese are not my words, not the way I talk. Also, I donāt draw pictures,ā Trump said. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt echoed that denial, insisting the signature is not authentic.
The Justice Department began turning over records from the Epstein investigation to Congress in August. Lawmakers have also subpoenaed Epsteinās estate for additional material, including his will, financial records, and agreements with prosecutors.
Epstein died in federal custody in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. His former associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, was later convicted of recruiting and grooming underage girls for Epsteinās abuse.
