Iowa Rep. Eddie Andrews announces bid for governor

Iowa Rep. Eddie Andrews announces bid for governor
NOW. THERE IS A NEW REPUBLICAN IN THE RACE FOR IOWA GOVERNOR. STATE REPRESENTATIVE EDDIE ANDREWS LAUNCHED HIS CAMPAIGN TODAY. vlog CHIEF POLITICAL REPORTER AMANDA ROOKER SPOKE WITH ANDREWS ABOUT WHY HE DECIDED TO RUN. AMANDA. WELL, LAUREN STACEY, EDDIE ANDREWS SAYS IF YOU’RE TIRED OF HIGH PROPERTY TAXES, YOU WANT STRONGER SCHOOLS AND BETTER MENTAL HEALTH CARE. HE’S READY TO TAKE THE LEAD. HE SAYS THE DECISION TO RUN STARTED WITH PRAYER AND NOW WITH GOVERNOR REYNOLDS STEPPING ASIDE, HE’S HOPING TO STEP IN FROM THE STEPS OF THE STATE HOUSE. EDDIE ANDREWS AM ANNOUNCING MY CANDIDACY FOR GOVERNOR OF THE GREAT STATE OF IOWA. SURROUNDED BY SUPPORTERS, EDDIE ANDREWS LAUNCHED HIS CAMPAIGN. YOU WILL NEVER, EVER, EVER FIND A PERSON WHO LOVES IOWA MORE THAN I DO. THE REPUBLICAN STATE REPRESENTATIVE HAS WON THREE TIMES IN A SWING DISTRICT AND SAYS THAT BIPARTISAN APPEAL GIVES HIM A PATH TO THE GOVERNOR’S OFFICE. MOST IOWANS WANT THE SAME THING, RIGHT? WE WANT GOOD, SAFE NEIGHBORHOODS, GOOD SCHOOLS. WHILE I AM A CONSERVATIVE. LET’S EVERYONE GET AT THE TABLE. EVERYONE WHO’S INTERESTED, LET’S GET AT THE TABLE AND ARRIVE AT SOLUTIONS. HE PRAISES GOVERNOR KIM REYNOLDS LEADERSHIP, BUT SAYS HE’D TAKE A DIFFERENT APPROACH ON KEY ISSUES. I AM GOING TO PROTECT LANDOWNER RIGHTS. PERIOD. FULL STOP. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE PUBLICLY DISAGREED ON WAS AREA. AREA EDUCATIONAL ASSOCIATION REORG. I THOUGHT THAT WAS I CERTAINLY WOULDN’T HAVE DONE IT THAT WAY. I WOULD SAY THAT HIS ENTRY SETS UP A REPUBLICAN PRIMARY RACE. EASTERN IOWA PASTOR BRAD SHERMAN IS ALREADY IN. CONGRESSMAN RANDY FEENSTRA, STATE SENATOR MIKE BUFFALO, AND ATTORNEY GENERAL BRENNA BIRD ARE ALSO CONSIDERING RUNS. WHEN YOU LOOK AT A PRIMARY CHALLENGE, THERE’S A PLUS AND A MINUS. vlog POLITICAL ANALYST DENNIS GOLDFORD SAYS A CROWDED PRIMARY CAN STRENGTHEN A CANDIDATE’S MESSAGE, BUT IT ALSO COMES WITH RISK. THE PLUS IS THAT YOU SHARPEN YOUR CAMPAIGN SKILLS, AND THE DANGER IS THAT IF IT GETS NASTY. YOU MAY IRRITATE, ANNOY, TURN OFF PROSPECTIVE SUPPORTERS WHOSE VOTE YOU WILL NEED IN THE GENERAL ELECTION. ANDREWS CALLS HIS CAMPAIGN A LONG SHOT. THIS IS GOING TO BE A MANDATE ON MONEY HE’S LAUNCHING WITHOUT DEEP POCKETED DONORS, HOPING TO INSTEAD SPARK A GRASSROOTS MOVEMENT. I WANT TO CHALLENGE EVERYONE HERE TO SEE IF WE CAN REALLY AND TRULY HAVE A GROUND UP, GROUND UP CAMPAIGN. ANDREWS IS CURRENTLY A STATE REPRESENTATIVE, BUT BEFORE HIS TIME IN THE IOWA HOUSE, HE WORKED AS A SOFTWARE ENGINEER, A MINISTER AND A COMMUNITY ADVOCATE. HE SAYS THAT EXPERIENCE PREPARES HIM TO LEAD THE STATE.
