Who will dominate the 77th Emmy Awards: Predictions for drama, comedy and more
The 77th Emmy Awards are on Sunday and after another year of great TV many are wondering, who will take home the nightās biggest prizes?
While āHacksā and āThe Bearā usually sweep through the comedy categories, a new show, āThe Studio,ā has been making waves. Will āHacksā and āThe Bearā continue to dominate, or will āThe Studioā sneak in and steal their thunder?
As for the drama category, after months of speculation, the battle between āĀŁ±š±¹±š°ł²¹²Ō³¦±šā and āThe Pittā is finally here. Will a new medical show with veteran medical actor Noah Wyle take home the night's biggest prize, or will āĀŁ±š±¹±š°ł²¹²Ō³¦±šā finally take home the award after a second nomination?
While there are many questions to be asked and answered at the Emmys on Sunday, here are the actors and shows that we predict will take home awards.
The predictions were made by Megan Camponovo, who covers entertainment for Hearst Televisionās National Desk, along with other members of the National Desk staff.
Drama:
Outstanding drama series
āA²Ō»å“ǰłā
āThe Diplomatā
āThe Last of Usā
āP²¹°ł²¹»å¾±²õ±šā
āThe Pittā
āĀŁ±š±¹±š°ł²¹²Ō³¦±šā
āSlow Horsesā
āThe White Lotusā
Our prediction: āĀŁ±š±¹±š°ł²¹²Ō³¦±šā
The second season of āĀŁ±š±¹±š°ł²¹²Ō³¦±šā was dramatic and incredibly compelling, keeping audiences guessing at what could happen next. The show is bizarre, but in a good way, with impeccable performances from the entire cast. āĀŁ±š±¹±š°ł²¹²Ō³¦±šā stands out from other shows in this category due to its commitment to being distinct and keeping the audience on its toes.
Outstanding lead actor in a drama series
Sterling K. Brown, āP²¹°ł²¹»å¾±²õ±šā
Pedro Pascal, āThe Last of Usā
Adam Scott, āĀŁ±š±¹±š°ł²¹²Ō³¦±šā
Noah Wyle, āThe Pittā
Gary Oldman, āSlow Horsesā
Our prediction: Noah Wyle, āThe Pittā
Almost 20 years later and in another medical drama, Noah Wyle may finally get his Emmy. Wyle as Dr. Robby has the emotion and compassion just like Dr. Carter in āER;ā however, this time he has the experience. Dr. Robby is the heart of the show, leading an emergency room through whatever comes its way. He is understanding yet still demands the best from his employees and for his patients.
Outstanding lead actress in a drama series
Kathy Bates, āMatlockā
Sharon Horgan, āBad Sistersā
Britt Lower, āSeverance ā
Bella Ramsey, āThe Last of Usā
Keri Russell, āThe Diplomatā
Our prediction: Kathy Bates, āMatlockā
As per usual, Kathy Bates gives a perfect performance as a lawyer in āMatlock.ā She is the star of the show and is the reason behind all of āMatlockāsā success. In her swan song with āMatlock,ā it can be inferred that Bates will once again take home another Emmy.
Outstanding supporting actor in a drama series
Zach Cherry, "Severance"
Walton Goggins, "The White Lotus"
Jason Isaacs, "The White Lotus"
James Marsden, "Paradise"
Sam Rockwell, "The White Lotus"
Tramell Tillman, "Severance"
John Turturro, "Severance"
Our prediction: Too close to call
This category is by far the hardest category to pick a winner in at the 2025 Emmys. With the votes being split between āĀŁ±š±¹±š°ł²¹²Ō³¦±šā and āThe White Lotus,ā various different outcomes could occur, and none would be surprising.
Most likely, the award will be a fight between Walton Goggins for āThe White Lotusā and Tramell Tillman for āSeverance.ā Both actors pour their hearts and souls into their respective roles; however, with other cast members also nominated, the votes could sway in their favor or even knock them out of the competition entirely.
Outstanding supporting actress in a drama series
Patricia Arquette, "Severance"
Carrie Coon, "The White Lotus"
Katherine LaNasa, "The Pitt"
Julianne Nicholson, "Paradise"
Parker Posey, "The White Lotus"
Natasha Rothwell, "The White Lotus"
Aimee Lou Wood, "The White Lotus"
Our prediction: Parker Posey, "The White Lotus"
āPiper, no!ā was probably the most relayed phrase from this season of āThe White Lotus,ā and that was all thanks to Parker Posey. Posey can satirize a Southern housewife who couldnāt live without her material things and lorazepam, of course. She did a perfect job mocking what director Mike White wanted to mock and was the best of the āWhite Lotusā cast.
Comedy:
Outstanding comedy series
"Abbott Elementary"
"The Bear"
"Hacks"
"Nobody Wants This"
"Only Murders in the Building"
"Shrinking"
"The Studio"
"What We Do in the Shadows"
Our prediction: āThe Studioā
āThe Studioā was a breakout success for its first season. It was funny and original, showing the lives of people who live and create movies in Hollywood in a unique way, yet still poking fun at what is actually happening in Hollywood. The comedic aspects and fast-paced directing kept the show entertaining and constantly changing. The cameos from real Hollywood stars also kept audiences laughing and constantly guessing as to who would appear next. As far as first seasons go, this comedy nailed it and will most likely go home with an Emmy.
Outstanding lead actor in a comedy series
Adam Brody, "Nobody Wants This"
Seth Rogen, "The Studio"
Jason Segel, "Shrinking"
Martin Short, "Only Murders in the Building"
Jeremy Allen White, "The Bear"
Our prediction: Seth Rogen, āThe Studioā
Seth Rogen is hilarious in the role of Matt Remmick, a studio head fighting to create original movies while still giving the president what he wants. With his all-star guest cast, each episode, Rogen is able to keep the audience laughing in a unique way that seems so accurate to what is happening in Hollywood currently.
Outstanding lead actress in a comedy series
Uzo Aduba, "The Residence"
Kristin Bell, "Nobody Wants This"
Quinta Brunson, "Abbott Elementary"
Ayo Edebiri, "The Bear"
Jean Smart, "Hacks"
Our prediction: Jean Smart, āHacksā
āHacksā is not āHacksā without the wonderfully talented Jean Smart. As per usual, Jean Smart steals every scene she is in and elevates the entire cast. Her comedic timing is impeccable and even in serious scenes, she shines. This would be her fourth Emmy for her role as Deborah Vance and just like Deborah Vance, Jean Smart is not slowing down anytime soon.
Outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series
Liza Colón-Zayas, "The Bear"
Hannah Einbinder, "Hacks"
Kathryn Hahn, "The Studio"
Janelle James, "Abbott Elementary"
Catherine O'Hara, "The Studio"
Sheryl Lee Ralph, "Abbott Elementary"
Jessica Williams, "Shrinking"
Our prediction: Hannah Einbinder, "Hacks"
Out of anyone in this list, Hannah Einbinder deserves this award the most. She is hilarious and is able to go head-to-head with Jean Smart, a feat not many can accomplish in a successful way. Einbinder has consistently been overlooked at the Emmys despite Smart winning every year. There would be no Deborah Vance without Ava Daniels, just as there is no Jean Smart without Hannah Einbinder, and this year, Einbinder will get her recognition.
Outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series
Ike Barinholtz, "The Studio"
Colman Domingo, "The Four Seasons"
Harrison Ford, "Shrinking"
Jeff Hiller, "Somebody Somewhere"
Ebon Moss-Bachrach, "The Bear"
Michael Urie, "Shrinking"
Bowen Yang, "Saturday Night Live"
Our prediction: Ike Barinholtz, "The Studio"
Thank you, Sal Saperstein, I mean, thank you, Ike Barinholtz, for bringing to life one of the funniest supporting actors this category has seen in a while. Barinholtz is hilarious in every episode and is able to perfectly play off his co-star, Seth Rogen, to create one of the funniest ensembles. The hijinks he gets into are both realistic and incredibly overcomplicated, which gives him the best comical performance in the category.
Limited Series:
Outstanding limited series
"Adolescence"
"Black Mirror"
"Dying for Sex"
"Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story"
"The Penguin"
Our prediction: āAdolescenceā
With its unique style of a whole episode shot in one take, āAdolescenceā was something that most people had never seen before. The acting was stellar from every character, portraying something raw and different. The plot kept audiences on the edge of their seats, wondering how and why a child would do something so atrocious.
Outstanding lead actor in a limited series or TV movie
Colin Farrell, "The Penguin"
Stephen Graham, "Adolescence"
Jake Gyllenhaal, "Presumed Innocent"
Bryan Tyree Henry, "Dope Thief"
Cooper Koch, "Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story"
Our prediction: Stephen Graham, "Adolescence"
Stephen Graham gives a heartbreaking performance as Jamieās father, Eddie, as he grapples with what his son might have done. He is able to portray a man who is so desperate for the rumors to be wrong, yet knows deep down that his son is guilty of the crime he is accused of committing. He also grapples with how he can still be a good father to his daughter and husband despite desperately failing his son.
Outstanding lead actress in a limited series or TV movie
Cate Blanchett, "Disclaimer"
Meghann Fahy, "Sirens"
Rashia Jones, "Black Mirror"
Cristin Milioti, "The Penguin"
Michelle Williams, "Dying for Sex"
Our prediction: Cristin Milioti, "The Penguin"
Cristin Milioti is odd and terrifying, which is a great fit for āThe Penguin.ā She is able to play off her co-star, Colin Farrell, and together they create one of the best crime dramas in recent history.
Outstanding supporting actor in a limited series or TV movie
Javier Bardem, "Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story"
Bill Camp, "Presumed Innocent"
Owen Cooper, "Adolescence"
Rob Delaney, "Dying for Sex"
Peter Sarsgaard, "Presumed Innocent"
Ashley Walters, "Adolescence"
Our prediction: Owen Cooper, "Adolescence"
If he wins this award, and he most likely will, Owen Cooper would be the youngest actor ever to win in this category and it would be so well deserved. Owen Cooper is terrifying as Jamie, and has the audience thinking how a child could commit such a terrible crime. He also has you questioning if he even committed the crime he was accused of.
Outstanding supporting actress in a limited series or TV movie
Erin Doherty, "Adolescence"
Ruth Negga, "Presumed Innocent"
Deirdre O'Connell, "The Penguin"
Chloƫ Sevigny, "Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story"
Jenny Slate, "Dying for Sex"
Christine Tremarco, "Adolescence"
Our prediction: Erin Doherty, "Adolescence"
Erin Doherty gives a fantastic performance in āAdolescence,ā portraying a therapist who must stay strong while attempting to get answers. She does a great job of seeming strong on the outside while secretly terrified of the child in front of her.
Outstanding reality/competition series
"The Traitors"
"RuPaul's Drag Race"
"The Amazing Race"
"Survivor"
"Top Chef"
Our predictions: āThe Traitorsā
āThe Traitorsā once again captivated audiences with its fun and outlandish murder mystery game. Alan Cumming is a great host, keeping the audience interested and engaged as the contestants attempt to solve the murder.
Outstanding talk series
"Jimmy Kimmel Live!"
"The Daily Show"
"The Late Show with Stephen Colbert"
Our predictions: "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert"
After the news of the cancellation of āThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert,ā it can be inferred that the cast and crew will be recognized for their work. āThe Late Show with Stephen Colbertā is a staple for late-night comedy and has won multiple Emmys in the past, making it more likely to win another Emmy.
