With mold issues resolved at current spot, Dallas County leaders talk new EMS facility
A new facility for emergency medical services is under consideration in Dallas County.
It was discussed at the Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday.
In late September, the current building needed attention. It had mold and a leaking roof.
Since then, the black mold has been removed, roof repairs have been made, new flooring has been installed and the bathrooms have been updated, EMS Director Kristin Brady says.
"It's tired and we need an uplift, a facelift, so to speak," she says.
A new site has been under discussion for several years. The supervisors' meeting included the discussion of a potential site at a lot near River and South Sixth streets in Adel.
The recent issues show the need, but leaders have to balance all the different departments, Brady says.
"They've taken care of the leaky roof and done the things necessary as sort of a holding pattern so we can stay in the station safely until we get a better situation for us in the future," Brady says.
There are other EMS providers in the county.
However, Brady says Dallas County EMS is manned 24 hours a day and handles a lot of the rural calls.
