Facebook settlement checks to be distributed as early as this month
INVESTIGATOR BRIAN ROACH EXPLAINS THIS WHOLE CASE DATES BACK TO 2023. THE SETTLEMENT FOLLOWED A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT THAT ALLEGED THAT FACEBOOK MADE USER DATA AVAILABLE TO THIRD PARTIES WITHOUT THE USER’S PERMISSION. ACCORDING TO THE SETTLEMENT WEBSITE, THE WHOLE LAWSUIT WAS FINALIZED IN MAY OF THIS YEAR. EMAILS OBTAINED BY NEWS 8 SENT OUT TO CLAIMANTS THIS WEEK SAID THAT THE DISTRIBUTION OF SETTLEMENT BENEFITS WILL COMMENCE IN SEPTEMBER RIGHT NOW, AND PAYMENTS WILL BE SENT IN BATCHES OVER THE FOLLOWING TEN WEEKS. BUT IF YOU DID FILE, THE PAYMENT YOU GET DEPENDS ON HOW LONG YOU WERE A FACEBOOK USER AND HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE FILED A CLAIM BEFORE THAT DEADLINE. FOLKS, I FOLLOWED A LOT OF CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS LIKE THIS OVER THE YEARS, AND I CAN TELL YOU THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT CONSUMERS USUALLY GET FROM THESE CASES IS USUALLY WELL BELOW $100 PER PERSON. SO IF YOU GET THIS EMAIL THAT WE’RE TALKING ABOUT AND REMEMBER, IT IS LEGITIMATE, DON’T GO ON A WILD SPENDING SPREE UNTIL YOU ACTUALLY HAVE CASH IN HAND. I'
