Get ready to treat Dad this year. Father’s Day 2025 is expected to be the most generous one yet, according to an annual survey by the National Retail Federation (NRF) and Prosper Insights & Analytics.
Consumers are expected to spend a record-breaking $24 billion, up from $22.4 billion in 2024 and surpassing the previous high of $22.9 billion set just the year before. Ten years ago? The projected spending was nearly half at $12.7 billion.
Who’s getting the gifts?
Looks like most of us are getting ready to show Dad some love. About 76% say they’ll be celebrating this year, and nearly half are picking out a gift just for their dad or stepdad. Others will be shopping for:
- Husbands (25%)
- Sons (12%)
- Brothers (9%)
- Friends (8%)
- Grandfathers (6%)
How much are we spending?
This year, the average person is expected to spend $199.38 on Father’s Day. The most generous gift-givers? Those aged 35 to 44, who are projected to spend an average of $278.90, about $27 more than last year.
What's on Dad's wish list?
It’s not just about the tie anymore. Shoppers say they’re looking for gifts that are either unique (46%) or make a lasting memory (37%). Experience-based gifts are on the rise with 30% of people planning to give an activity like concert tickets, a cooking class, or a hands-on project. Subscription services are also trending, with 43% planning to send a curated box of goodies, up from 34% when first measured in 2019. Other top gifts include:
- Greeting cards (58%)
- Clothing (55%)
- A special outing (53%)
- Gift cards (50%)
