Body camera video shows 5-year-old's surprising Chick-fil-A breakfast adventure
A 5-year-old wandered from his Florida home early one summer morning to get breakfast at a nearby Chick-fil-A.
Concerned staff at the restaurant called the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Newly released body camera video from that June incident has just been released.
When officers responded, they found the boy, William, eating with one of the Chick-fil-A managers.
The officers took William in their patrol car to try to find his home.
William was only able to tell the officers the direction of his house, and that it has a white fence.
The officers were eventually able to locate the gated house, and boy, were William's parents surprised to learn about their son's adventure.
The boy had apparently squeezed through the locked gates outside the family home to walk to the restaurant.
“I know he knows how to get to Chick-fil-A because we walk there,” William's mom, Victoria, said. “I would’ve never expected him to come down here on his own in the morning before anybody else in the house was up.”
The sheriff’s office made clear that William’s parents were not in any sort of trouble since they had several safety measures in place.
The sheriff’s office did say this serves as a reminder to teach young kids their last name, parents' names, address, and a phone number in case of emergency.
