Woman attacked by 11-foot gator, dragged underwater in Florida river
A TRIAL IS SCHEDULED IN SEPTEMBER. RIGHT NOW, A WOMAN IS WAKING UP IN THE HOSPITAL AFTER AUTHORITIES SAY A LARGE ALLIGATOR ATTACK HAPPENED IN THE SOUTH FORK AREA OF THE SAINT LUCIE RIVER. THAT’S NEAR SOUTHWEST LYNDON STREET NEAR CHARLEY, LEIGHTON PARK IN PALM CITY. REPORTER NIKITA RAMOS HAS MORE ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED LEADING UP TO THAT ATTACK. NIKITA. PEOPLE WE’VE BEEN TALKING TO SAY THEY ARE STUNNED. AND THAT WOMAN IS LUCKY TO BE ALIVE. IT WAS AT THIS BOAT RAMP WHERE SHE MET WITH FIRST RESPONDERS AFTER THEY SAY SHE WAS ATTACKED BY AN 11 FOOT ALLIGATOR IN THESE WATERS. AN EVENING BOAT RIDE THAT TOOK A TERRIFYING TURN. I WAS QUITE SHOCKED, ACTUALLY. IT’S THE FEELING SINKING INTO NEIGHBORS OF THE SOUTH FORK SAINT LUCIE RIVER. IT WAS A LITTLE SHOCKED, TO BE HONEST WITH YOU, THAT YOU SAID THAT SHE GOT BIT. YOU DON’T HEAR ABOUT IT MUCH AROUND HERE. THE MARTIN COUNTY SHERIFF SAYS A 27 YEAR OLD WOMAN WAS OUT ON THE WATER WITH HER BOYFRIEND AND DOG AT AROUND 8:00 WEDNESDAY NIGHT. THAT’S AROUND THE TIME THAT THEY RESPONDED TO HELP RESCUE THAT WOMAN, WHO WAS ATTACKED BY AN 11 FOOT ALLIGATOR. THE PATIENT WAS WALKING IN APPROXIMATELY WAIST DEEP WATER, AND AT A CERTAIN POINT, THE ALLIGATOR GRABBED HER BY HER RIGHT ARM AND HAND AND DRAG HER UNDERWATER. THEY SAY SHE WAS LEFT BITTEN WITH BROKEN BONES ON HER HAND AND HER WRIST. THEY WERE PROBABLY TRYING TO. SHE PROBABLY TRYING TO TAKE HER UNDER THE WATER. WHILE THE WOMAN CONTINUES TO RECOVER FROM THOSE INJURIES, PEOPLE IN THE AREA URGE OTHERS TO BE MINDFUL OF THE WILDLIFE. ALLIGATORS LIVE HERE. IT’S SUMMERTIME AND YOU JUST DON’T WANT TO TAKE THAT RISK AND TO STAY OUT OF THE WATER. IT’S NOT TO SWIM. IT’S NOT EVEN TO WALK IN. I MEAN, IT’S THEIR TERRITORY. WE’RE INTRUDING ON THEM. THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS THAT THE BOYFRIEND AND THE DOG WERE NOT HURT. THIS, AS THE WOMAN CONTINUES TO RECOVER FROM HER INJURIES. FLORIDA WILDLIFE OFFICIALS SAY THAT THEY HAVE LOCATED THE ALLIGATOR REPORTING IN PALM CITY
