Soldier saves wife when gunfire erupts at Las Vegas festival
A California soldier was shot multiple times while he saved his wife from gunfire at a Las Vegas music festival.
Lt. Derek Harp was at the Route 91 Harvest Festival when shots were fired from the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.
While he recovers at a Las Vegas hospital, Harp said he is focusing on the bravery and heroism of the thousands of people who were at the festival helping strangers escape the chaos.
“They really stepped up, and they did something quite remarkable,” he said.
Harp said he was saved by a stranger who took he and wife away from the scene in a truck and to a hospital.
That's why Harp wants people to remember the courage of others that night.
“Their fellow citizen, their fellow Americans are going to be there to help them," he said. "And, we need to recognize that.”
