Gary Leffler is the only congressional candidate who has owned and operated a farm. He has also worked in the financial services industry for 25 years and has also been involved in the construction business.Candidate profile:Gary Leffler is a farmer, business owner and construction consultant hoping to land on Capitol Hill.“A lot of people ask me why I'm running for Congress. It's because of our eight grandchildren, making sure that they have the same opportunities that I had growing up and those family values, those great Iowa values,” Leffler said. “Our children are grown. We have the time. We have the experiences. And we certainly have the connectivity with the people of the great state of Iowa and especially the Third Congressional District.”He says he's spent the past six years driving across Iowa's 3rd District, a place he hopes to represent in Congress. But it's his set of wheels that sets Leffler apart.“I've got what arguably is the most patriotic tractor in all of America,” Leffler said.From rallies and parades, across Iowa and the country, Leffler says he takes his tractor everywhere.He says that's how he's gotten to know everyday Iowans across the 3rd District.“For the last six years, I have traveled the 3rd Congressional District more than any candidate,” Leffler said. “I have worked with the people all alongside them. There's not another candidate for Congress that can show up at a farm and say, 'hey, Ray, let me come out and help you more a stretch of hay.' And just to be able to have all those experiences, and to connect with people.”Leffler says he's pro-law enforcement, pro-life, pro-military and pro-agriculture. He argues it's his out-of-the-box thinking that makes him right for the job.“I think too many times we have congressmen or people that go off to Washington, D.C., they get lost in the swamp, they get disconnected from the people back home. I'm not going out there to be part of the establishment. I'm going out there to represent the people of Iowa's Third Congressional District.
