A Chihuahua named Bella saved her family from a house fire in Georgia by barking persistently to alert them to the danger shortly after midnight.
"That's my baby right here," said homeowner Sandra Thomas, who was asleep on the couch when the fire broke out at the Atlanta home.
Bella, always by her side, began barking to wake her up.
"She heard it and she was trying to tell me to get up because she kept barking and barking and barking," Thomas said. "But she would growl at me and let me know we need to get out of here or get up or do something."
As the fire spread, Bella jumped onto the chair next to Thomas, prompting her to look up and see the flames.
"I said, 'Girl, what's wrong with you? You know not to jump in my chair.' And when I looked up I saw flames," Thomas said.
The dog also alerted Thomas's grandson, who got out of the burning home. Atlanta firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and credited Bella with saving lives.
"That small dog was able to get everyone up and get them out that way nobody needed to be rescued," said Batt. Chief Matt Driver of Atlanta Fire Rescue.
"What I told you about being mean to people?" Thomas said, adding, "She's always with me."
The family is receiving assistance from the American Red Cross to start rebuilding and is thankful for their lives and Bella.
"God was there with my dog and he was there to show my dog how to help me get up," Thomas said.
The fire is under investigation, and authorities believe it may have started in the laundry room.
