A man came to the rescue of a woman who had her purse stolen.
The man who allegedly tried to grab a woman's purse at Publix and run away with it was in jail Thursday after one shopper sprang into action, according to Boynton Beach Police.
A woman was loading groceries into her car outside of the supermarket in Boynton Beach when police said a man swooped in, snatched her purse, and bolted.
"I was trying to get groceries and then all of the sudden I look to my left and then I see an older lady and she was screaming, 'Oh my purse, my purse got taken, my purse! And I'm like, 'Wow!' recalled Corey Wyatt Thursday morning.
Wyatt said he sprung up and started sprinting after the suspect.
"I just ran him down, I tackled him, and he tried to fight me back for the purse and I fought him," said Wyatt.
Police said Wyatt chased the suspect to a nearby parking lot where a woman was waiting in a getaway car.
"I hit him a few times, knocked him out and grabbed the purse back," said Wyatt.
According to an arrest report, Wyatt kept Gregory Reneson and Tamlyn Dexter in their SUV until officers got to the shopping center on Gateway Blvd.
Investigators said they found syringes, spoons, and plastic baggies in the car.
"I just lost my grandmother," said Wyatt.
"And when I saw (the alleged victim) she was up in age and my instincts kicked in, I gotta help this lady."
But Wyatt said wasn't looking for a fight, he just wanted to lend a hand.
"She thanked me and it felt good helping her."
Reneson and Dexter were charged with possessing drug paraphernalia
Reneson refused to appear in court this morning and also faces a robbery charge.
