To the spirit of Halloween this year with *** mask or costume and you haven't bought yours yet, it might be too late to become one of the most popular characters. Super villain Darth Vader of Star Wars fame was the top seller in children's costumes and sold out within minutes at the Pied Piper and Sunrise Mall. The movie's good guys, the Golden Rabbit 3 CPO and Luke Skywalker, will also be showing up in large numbers on your doorstep Halloween night. And for the first time, *** cast of TV and movie superheroes have appeared. The boys' favorite has been Spider-Man. Girls have liked Wonder Woman best. There is also the opportunity to become Superman, Batman, or the bionic man or woman. King Kong's popularity among children was *** surprise because it's been *** while since the movie. And the gorilla mask, *** longtime favorite among adults, is also sold out. The President Carter mask has been *** loser, but the Nixon mask has been *** winner, and all are sold. These monsters have been hot items this Halloween, despite the $30 price tag. Merchants say they're popular because ugly is in, pretty as out. Whatever the trend, they're enjoying the sweet sound of the cash register, ringing up *** whopping increase in sales of Halloween costumes and novelties this year. Marianne Alonzo for Channel 3 reports in Sacramento. This scene is reminiscent of everyone's favorite Halloween nightmare, but as traditional as witches are at this time of year, there may not be many of them. Even Jason of Friday the 13th fame may make *** limited appearance. What many of these trick or treaters are looking for is Freddy Krueger, the savage killer who first starred in Nightmare on Elm Street, and this store is temporarily sold out of Freddie costumes, so many Halloween enthusiasts are settling for the likes of Hulk Hogan. Ever popular Peewee Herman and Alf. Little kids are still the toughest to shop for. They changed their minds about 10 different times, but this little guy's going to be *** pumpkin this year, and this guy down here is going to be Peewee Herman, and he's going to be *** dragon. Like most other things, the price of being *** trick or treater has gone up. Expect to pay *** few more dollars for masks and costumes. Another thing that has increased is the number of adults who wear them. Adults are buying peewee. And Freddy Krueger. And Bugs Bunny. Nancy Elkin is buying costumes for her kids. She is still thinking about the one she is going to wear. Maybe *** witch's hat or something like that. I've been wanting to for *** while. I haven't outgrown it myself. If you are going trick or treating, you still have time to pick out *** costume. Sometimes the most fun is just trying them on in Lancaster County, Ed Whitestock. Costumes, costumes, so many choices. Austin Powers is one of this year's hottest sellers. It's. Oh yeah, Austin can turn your basic nice girl or guy. I think I'll be quite impressive as Austin Powers. In the international man of mystery. How is my hair? I want to know. Pretty appalling, appalling. I actually looked like this 30 years ago, you know. For the under 3 crowd, the hot items include Teletubbies. And Pokemon. Kids all want to be Pokemon. We sold out of them. We have *** few more in now, but they were very, very popular. But not everything for Halloween is all cute and cuddly. Take this guy for example. If you have *** weak stomach, close your eyes now. Then we have these charming guys guaranteed to win friends and get you noticed. Screams always popular. This year we got *** 7 ft Scream stalker costume. It's very cool. Then we got one with the bleeding mask. But if nothing is grabbing you so far, Kate volunteered to model *** variety of choices for you. Or you can simply visit and speak to the very helpful staff who are more than willing to give you an idea or two. The help you get nowadays. And don't panic. There's still room on Halloween for the completely adorable, and some heroes never get old. Would you show me how Superman flies?
