Madison County supervisor under investigation for election misconduct, voter intimidation

Madison County supervisor under investigation for election misconduct, voter intimidation
Official should ever ever um coerce or intimidate the citizen's right to have their voice heard. The Madison County supervisor's chairwoman is now under investigation after *** Facebook comment. The sheriff says her post may be considered voter intimidation. The investigation has now been turned over to the Iowa attorney General's office. vlog's Beau Bowman is live in Winterset tonight at the Madison County courthouse in Bowe. This all started *** week ago when the supervisors appointed *** new county auditor. Yeah, after that appointment, *** group of Madison County citizens started *** petition for *** special election. They feel like they were left out of that important decision making process, but it's the conversation that happened online after that that has investigators' attention. I was disappointed and I was *** bit shocked. Vicki Brenner is one of the organizers of the petition for *** special election for the county auditor's role. She's also one of the people called out by name in county supervisor Heather Stancil's Facebook comment. Addressing the special election in it, Stancil writes that if *** special election is in fact held, quote, I will then work to find ways to offset that additional cost to taxpayers by shrinking government. That comment has now landed sancil in the middle of *** voter intimidation investigation. The Madison County Sheriff Jason Barnes says it's been passed off to the Iowa attorney General's office. No elected official should ever, ever, um, coerce or intimidate the. Citizens' right to have their voice heard. This comes one week after the board of supervisors appointed Matthew Schwarz to serve as county auditor on *** 2 to 1 vote. Brenner says she started the petition after months of controversy circled over the supervisors, auditor, and the treasurer, the latter of which was charged with felonious misconduct in office for altering documents to show she had paid for her vehicle registration and property taxes when she had not. What I'm hearing over and over again. This has nothing to do with political parties. Brenner says they have more than 800 signatures on their petition and need somewhere between 300 to 500 more to spark *** special election. This is about electing *** qualified person, somebody who has the qualifications. More importantly, somebody who cares deeply about serving the citizens of Madison County. I reached out to Stancil for *** comment today but have not heard back. We're live in Madison County, Bo Bowman, vlog-A News, Iowa's news leader. So we'll certainly continue to follow both. Thank you.

The chairwoman of the Madison County Supervisors, Heather Stancil, is under investigation following a Facebook comment that has raised concerns of election misconduct and voter intimidation. The Madison County sheriff, Jason Barnes, has referred the case to the Iowa attorney general's office for further review. The controversy stems from a Facebook post made by Stancil in response to a petition for a special election to fill the county auditor's position. In her comment, Stancil stated that if a special election were held, she would "work to find ways to offset that additional cost to taxpayers by shrinking government." This comment has drawn criticism from residents, including Vicky Brenner, one of the organizers of the petition. Brenner, who was named in Stancil's post, expressed her disappointment and concern. "No elected official should ever coerce or intimidate the citizens' right to have their voice heard," Brenner said. The petition effort began after the Madison County Board of Supervisors appointed Matthew Schwarz as county auditor in a 2-1 vote. Brenner and other residents felt excluded from the decision-making process and initiated the petition to call for a special election. The situation comes amid broader controversies involving county officials. The former county treasurer, Amanda DeVos, was recently charged with felonious misconduct in office for allegedly altering documents to falsely show payment of vehicle registration and property taxes. Brenner emphasized that the petition is not politically motivated but rather focused on ensuring the election of a qualified and dedicated individual. "This is about electing a qualified person, somebody that has the qualifications, and more importantly, somebody who cares deeply about serving the citizens of Madison County," she said. The petition has already garnered over 800 signatures, with organizers needing an additional 300-500 signatures to trigger a special election. Attempts to reach Stancil for comment have been unsuccessful.
