IT DID NOT GIVE US A LONG TIME TO PREPARE. >> OF COURSE, THIS STORM WAS NOT LIMITED TO MARSHALLTOW ELDER SAYS HOMES, CARS, ROADS, AND PARKS ACROSS THE COUNTY SUFFERED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE. SHE SAID SOME ROADS WILL TAKE MONTHS TO CLEAR AND MAKE THAT YEARS FOR THOSE COUNTY PARKS. >> ELDER SAYS THERE IS SOMETHING PEOPLE WITH STORM DAMAGE REALLY SHOULD DO. REPORT IT. After the Aug. 10 derecho left Iowans with damaged homes and without power, many are asking how they can help. Volunteer: United Way of East Central Iowa is asking for volunteers who would be able to deliver food, serve food, cook food, clean up storm damage, sharpen and repair chainsaws and more. For those able to do any of these tasks, click here. Story County Emergency Management is asking for volunteers. To sign up, click here. For those in eastern Iowa, the city of Marion is asking for volunteers to call them at 319-447-3581. Table 2 Table in Iowa City is looking for volunteers to deliver food. For more information, click here. Donate:The American Red Cross is asking for donations to assist in disaster relief. In the donation process, you can click to specifically support the local Red Cross program. To donate, click here. The Salvation Army is asking for volunteers and monetary donations. For more information, click here. Feed Iowa First is a nonprofit in Linn County that provides fresh food from local famers to residents in need. To donate, click here. The Hawkeye Area Community Action Plan is a nonprofit that is providing relief to six counties, specifically aimed at food and disaster relief. To donate, click here.
