COULD SEE A BIGGER IMPACT. NEW AT SIX, AN IOWAN IS BEING RECOGNIZED FOR HIS WORK PROMOTING VOTER EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICE, AND HE’S ONLY NINE YEARS OLD. HENRY CHARLES ERNEST MENINGA RECEIVED THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SECRETARIES OF STATE MEDALLION AWARD TODAY AT THE STATE CAPITOL. STATE OFFICIALS SAY HIS DEDICATION TO VOTER EDUCATION STARTED WHEN HE WAS, YOU KNOW, THE RIPE OLD AGE OF FOUR WHEN HE BEGAN ATTENDING VOTING SESSIONS AND ORGANIZING A MOCK ELECTION. HENRY SAYS HE DOESN’T DO IT FOR THE RECOGNITION. YEAH. THEY ALWAYS FELT WORSE THAT BECAUSE BECAUSE I WAS HELPING PEOPLE AND I LIKE HELPING PEOPLE. IT MAKES ME FEEL HAPPY THAT WE CAN ALL GET BEHIND A MISSION LIKE THAT. HENRY ALSO MAKES AND GIVES AWAY 40 TO 50 CARE PACKAGES A YEAR TO HOMELESS IOWANS AND LEADS

Nine-year-old Henry Charles Ernest Menninga was honored at the state Capitol on Wednesday with the National Association of Secretaries of State Medallion Award for his work in promoting voter education and community service. State officials said his dedication began at the age 4, when he started attending voting sessions and organizing mock elections.Henry said, "Yeah. They always felt worth it because, because I was helping people. And I like helping people. It makes me feel happy."In addition to his voter education efforts, Henry makes and gives away 40 to 50 care packages a year to homeless Iowans and leads garbage cleanups at McHenry Park in Des Moines.
