His run for office is motivated by representing his party in Iowa's 4th District."Ultimately, I wanted to make sure that there was going to be a Democrat on the ballot in November, and I wanted to do my part," Melton said. But beyond having both sides on the ballot, Melton says he wants to lead Iowa's 4th Congressional District in a new direction."The fight is worth fighting, regardless of the odds. There are a lot of people in our districts that are struggling right now. One thing that I'm really concerned about is you have a lot of young people leaving the district. And there's a lot of reasons for that, that we can solve for. There's a lot of struggles with affordable and accessible childcare and health care. There's worries about the long-term viability of our public schools, as we're seeing this ramp-up in an attempt to take public money out of public schools," Melton said. Melton says his top priority is putting people first."You know, the people of the district are always going to be my priority. You know, affordable, accessible childcare is so important in our district, because there's been so much population decline in our district," Melton said."There are so many concerns in the 4th District that we have the resources to fix. People in positions of power have just decided not to prioritize them.
