There are now 70 long-term care facilities reporting coronavirus outbreaks in Iowa, up from 68 the previous day. The state reports 1,779 positive cases and 721 recoveries within those facilities. There have been 790 deaths within Iowa’s long-term care facilities. The Iowa Department of Public Health on Thursday reported 1,401 new COVID-19 cases and 15 additional deaths.As of 10 a.m. Thursday, the state reported 110,974 total cases, 85,599 total recoveries and 1,594 total deaths since the pandemic began. Iowa reported 109,573 total cases and 1,579 total deaths 24 hours earlier.The health department reports 918,078 Iowans have been tested for the virus. The health department received 5,335 lab test results in the previous day, with 738 positive cases. The state receives test results from prior days that add to the overall total. A third of Iowans have been tested for the virus and one of 28 have tested positive. Iowa reports a 9.7% positivity rate over the last 14 days.State data shows 14 Iowa counties report a 14-day positivity rate greater than 15%. That means public schools in Harrison, Cass, Delaware, Sioux, Monroe, Plymouth, Osceola, Carroll, Taylor, Winnebago, O’Brien, Humboldt, Lyon and Crawford counties can apply for a waiver to provide 100% distance learning. Harrison, Cass, Delaware, Sioux and Monroe counties report a rate greater than 20%.COVID-19 hospitalizations in Iowa dipped slightly over the previous day. There are 530 patients hospitalized, down from the previous day’s record of 535. There are 135 patients listed in intensive care, up from 134 the previous day. There were 85 patients admitted into hospitals, down from 90 the previous day. There are 53 patients on ventilators, up from 49 the previous day.
