Mark Gronowski is ready for his long-awaited Iowa debut
The one conversation that has dominated the Iowa football chat rooms, water cooler discussions and Hawkeye gatherings has been the quarterback position. The big question that is looming: will Mark Gronowski finally elevate the Iowa quarterback position to a place fans have been longing to see? After months of speculation, fans will get their first glimpse of their new QB1 on Saturday when Iowa takes on Albany. Gronowski is ready to hit the field and have all eyes on him.
"A lot of kids dream about being in this position," Gronowski said. "I dreamt of it as a kid, and I'm going to go out there, be me and go have fun."
There is pressure that comes with being the starting quarterback for any college football program. Iowa is no exception. Gronowski is accepting the pressure head on, but is ready for all the talk to be done. He is ready to let his play do the talking.
"I'm really pumped," said Gronowski. "It's just such a great opportunity and such a blessing to be named the quarterback for Iowa."
Players and coaches are confident in Gronowski's growth as camp has progressed and expect fans to see the same during the season opener.
"He is getting way more comfortable back there," said wide receiver Seth Anderson. "He is making plays and stepping up."
And his leadership on and off the field has earned him the honor of being one of Iowa's team captains this football season.
"He has a quiet confidence about him," said head coach Kirk Ferentz. "I think it's easy to look at the guy and say he is a guy I want to follow."
Gronowski is hoping that practice makes perfect and that involves more than just plays on the field. He told vlog's Jeff Dubrof that the team did a practice of the Swarm last week.
Iowa faces Albany at 5 p.m. on Saturday. The game will be televised on FS1.
