Iowa 7th graders hospitalized after hay rack ride goes wrong, says parents, sheriff's office

Iowa 7th graders hospitalized after hay rack ride goes wrong, says parents, sheriff's office
GETTING ANY ANSWERS AS TO WHY IT HAPPENED. THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED ON THIS GRAVEL ROAD JUST EAST OF HERE ON SATURDAY NIGHT. PARENTS SAY KIDS WERE OUT FOR A HAY RIDE AND WERE THROWN FROM THE BACK OF THE TRAILER. SOME OF THEM ENDED UP IN THE HOSPITAL. NOW, THOSE SAME PARENTS WANT SOMEONE TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. I GOT A CALL ABOUT 905 FROM MY SON, MOM, THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT, BUT I’M OKAY. BUT OTHER KIDS ARE NOT OKAY. ANNIE BURROW SAYS HER SON WAS ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES WHO WALKED AWAY FROM THE ACCIDENT. BUT SHE SAYS SOME OF THE 30 TO 40 OTHERS SEVENTH GRADERS, ARE FACING SERIOUS INJURIES. ONE OF THE STUDENTS, A GIRL SHE HAS SEVERAL BROKEN BONES, HER PELVIS AND SOME VERTEBRAE AND HAD ORGAN DAMAGE. ANOTHER STUDENT HAS AT LEAST ONE, IF NOT MORE, BROKEN BONES IN HER ANKLE SLASH LEG. BURROW SAYS IT WASN’T A SCHOOL SANCTIONED EVENT, BUT IT WAS PUT TOGETHER BY A GROUP OF PARENTS. SHE SAYS THERE WAS ALCOHOL AT THE PARTY FOR THE ADULTS AND A TRACKING APP SHE HAS FOR HER SON SHOWS THE HAYRACK RIDE GOING TOO FAST LEADING UP TO THE ACCIDENT. THE FACT THAT THEY REACHED THAT SPEED, WHICH WAS TWICE WHAT A HAYRACK RIDE WOULD BE, IS CONCERNING, WHICH WAS WHAT, 25 ON MY SON’S APP. THE KEOKUK COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE TELLS vlog THEY ARE INVESTIGATING ALONG WITH THE IOWA STATE PATROL. BURROW SAYS THERE HAVE ONLY BEEN RUMORS ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED AND WHO WAS INVOLVED, BUT HASN’T RECEIVED ANY ANSWERS FROM INVESTIGATORS. WHAT’S THE MOST FRUSTRATING PART NOW IN THE AFTERMATH THAT THERE ARE ADULTS NOT TELLING THE TRUTH WHEN THERE ARE KIDS AT STAKE? LAW ENFORCEMENT TELLS US THIS IS AN ONGOING INVESTIGATION AND NO ONE HAS BEEN ARRESTED JUST YET. BUT WE ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THIS STORY AND BRING YOU THAT UPDATED INFORMATION ON OUR vlog WEBSITE AND ON OUR MOBILE APP IN KEOKU
