Anson Elementary School in Marshalltown distributed 350 free coats to students from preschool through fourth grade on Tuesday, thanks to Operation Warm and its partnership with Lennox.
The initiative, part of Operation Warm, a national nonprofit, provided the jackets to the students, who were able to choose their size and color with the help of volunteers.
Brittany Havens, a volunteer with the Lennox Foundation, said, "I've seen some excited faces, especially the ones they get to pick their own colors. Probably colors that their parents wouldn't have picked out for them."
Jayden Sellers, a resource specialist at the school, said, "I think it's great seeing the smiles and they're happy."
The event aimed to prepare students for the cold months ahead.
