"And I just thought, you know, this would probably be a pretty good place to build a life and a family. And that was like, 31 years ago. And it turns out, I was right."Carlin has worked as an attorney, started a nonprofit, and has served at the Iowa Statehouse since 2017. But he's hoping his next stop will be Washington, D.C. "The reason why I got into this — the America that I grew up in is not the one we have now for our kids. And jeez — when I look at the stuff that they have going on in school, It's pretty daunting," Carlin said. "I think the most important responsibility we have is to pass the torch of freedom to the next generation and make sure they have it just like we did."This goal is what motivates Carlin to run for the U.S. Senate — taking on incumbent Charles Grassley."Senator Grassley has been there since 1980. As I said, the deficit has gone from $1 trillion to $30 trillion," Carlin said. "Too much of politics has facilitated where we are at now. Whether it's allowing our manufacturing base to be shipped to China and Mexico and lose our economic strength. Politicians have to take some responsibility for that."Carlin says he is ready to get to work."I think things should have been looked into on election integrity that didn't get looked into. I am a big proponent and advocate for medical freedom, and Second Amendment rights. I am concerned about the global ambitions of China economically and militarily," Carlin said. "And of course, protecting our southern border is a big deal. There's a lot, there's a lot of issues."
