BUT WITHIN THE PAST HOUR THE INTERFAITH ALLIANCE OF IOWA RENEWED ITS CALL TO THE GOVERNOR TO SIGN AN ORDER TO MANDATE MASKS. THE INTERFAITH ALLIANCE IS ALSO ASKING GOVERNOR REYNOLDS TO FOLLOW THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE WHITE HOUSE CORONAVIRUS TASK FORCE REPORT. Iowa faith leaders again call on Reynolds to sign mask mandate
Religious leaders in Iowa are once again calling on Gov. Kim Reynolds to sign a statewide mask mandate as COVID-19 cases continue to rise and the state continues to set hospitalization records.The Interfaith Alliance of Iowa and several religious leaders will held an online news conference Monday, calling on the governor to follow the recommendations of the White House Coronavirus Task Force.“The White House Coronavirus Task Force has implored the leaders of our state, particularly Governor Reynolds, to take quick and rigorous action to curb the extreme rise in positive cases and to reduce the increased hospitalization rate of COVID-19 cases that are stressing our healthcare system. The Governor has announced some limited actions but not the full range of steps necessary to reduce the alarming rate of growth in Iowa’s cases,” the alliance said through a news release. The same group delivered 800 signatures calling for a mask mandate in early August.Reynolds has steadfastly said she believes Iowans are responsible enough to wear masks on their own and that a mandate is not necessary.
