Iowa State down two kickers ahead of its game vs. Arizona
Iowa State kicker Kyle Konrardy has made himself into an Iowa State hero thanks to his heroics in back-to-back Cy-Hawk games. His 54-yard game-winning field goals will be remembered by Cyclone fans for years to come.
But the Cyclones will now have to be without Konrardy for the foreseeable future as the kicker will miss time with a lower-body injury. Head Coach Campbell is optimistic he'll return to action soon.
"I think the one thing positive for us with Kyle is it's not going to be a long-term situation," Campbell said to the media on Tuesday.
Konrardy is not the only kicker out for the Cyclones. The backup place-kicker Jace Gilbert is also out. This now leaves the Cyclones turning to the third-string kicker, freshman walk-on Chase Smith.
"There's a lot of confidence from myself and our staff on what Chase can do," Campbell said. "Chase is a damn good kicker and we're fortunate to have him."
Smith, an Eldridge, Iowa native, has not attempted a field goal yet this season. He is 4-4 on extra point attempts. He'll be the main leg moving forward until Konrardy and Gilbert return from injury.
