Iowa State will be without a key member of its defensive secondary for the Liberty Bowl.All-American cornerback T.J. Tampa has opted out of the bowl game and will concentrate on preparing for the NFL Draft, according to a report by the Des Moines Register. Cyclones coach Matt Campbell broke the news Wednesday morning in Memphis, where his team is preparing for its Liberty Bowl matchup against Memphis at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at Liberty Stadium. Tampa, who has started 24 straight games for the Cyclones and has 29 starts in his career, was a third-team AP All-American this season and a semifinalist for both the Jim Thorpe and Chuck Bednarik awards. Tampa is 95th overall in CBS Sports' NFL draft prospect rankings for 2024 and the 12th-ranked cornerback.
