Iowa weather: A hot and humid weekend with storm chances Sunday
IF YOU’D LIKE TO TAKE PART IN THE COMPETITION. JOHN RIVAS IS GREAT AT BEING A METEOROLOGIST, BUT I’M NOT SURE. DO YOU HAVE SINGING TALENTS AS WELL? NOT AT ALL. NO, IT’S WAY TOO EARLY. YOU KNOW, PEOPLE WANT TO HAVE A NICE, EASY MORNING. THEY DON’T NEED TO HEAR THAT. IT’S. IT’S PRETTY, PRETTY BRUTAL. BUT I DO HAVE SOMETHING FUN TO SHOW YOU. THIS IS ACTUALLY PRETTY COOL RIGHT NOW. SOME SHOWERS OFF TO THE NORTH. IT’S GOING TO BE MAINLY NUISANCE SHOWERS. NOT GOING TO BE ANYTHING TOO HARSH, JUST MAKING YOUR MORNING PLANS. MAYBE A LITTLE MORE WET THAT DIRECTION, BUT LOOK AT WHAT’S HAPPENING OVER THE METRO. THERE IS A BOUNDARY ASSOCIATED WITH THE SHOWERS AND THE PREVIOUS STORMS. THEY REALLY DID DIE DOWN AS THEY ENTERED THE STATE, BUT YOU CAN KIND OF SEE SOME PRETTY OMINOUS LOOKING CLOUDS. IT’S NOT GOING TO REALLY LAY DOWN ANY RAINFALL. LEAST NOTHING MEASURABLE. CAN’T RULE OUT JUST MAYBE A SPRINKLE OR TWO. BUT IF YOU TAKE A LOOK OUTSIDE AND YOU SEE THESE CLOUDS, DON’T WORRY, WE’RE NOT GOING TO LEAD IN ANY SHOWERS OR STORMS. WE’RE JUST GOING TO BE DEALING WITH MORE OF THE VIEW AS WE START THINGS OFF THE CLOUDS TO START. BUT WE’RE GOING TO BE HOT AND HUMID AS WE GO THROUGHOUT THIS WEEKEND. SUNNY FOR TODAY. STORMS RETURN TOMORROW. COMFORTABLE START TO THE WEEK. THE WEEK AHEAD AS WE SEE A LITTLE MORE OF A TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY DIP. BUT THAT’S NOT GOING TO BE THE STORY FOR TODAY. BY AROUND 10:00 ALREADY RIGHT NEAR 90 IS WHAT IT’S GOING TO FEEL LIKE OUTSIDE THAT HUMIDITY. YEAH, IT’S GOING TO BE SOMETHING THAT YOU’LL BE NOTICING THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE DAY. UPPER 90S, CLOSE TO 100 IS WHAT IT’S GOING TO BE FEELING LIKE AS WE GET TO THE HOTTEST PART OF THE AFTERNOON. SO HOUR BY HOUR CLEARING UP STILL EVEN SOME PATCHY FOG POSSIBLY FORMING AS WE GO THROUGHOUT THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS. WE’LL HAVE A SOUTH WIND BREEZE AROUND 15 GUSTS, SO WE’RE NOT GOING TO SEE ANYTHING TOO HARSH, EVEN UP TO AROUND 20 IN SOME SPOTS. BUT EITHER WAY IT’S GOING TO BE SUNNY, IT’S GOING TO BE HUMID, YOU’RE GOING TO FEEL IT. SO PLAN AHEAD, GRAB THE WATER, GRAB THE SUNSCREEN AS WELL, HEAT UP. THE HEAT, OF COURSE, IS GOING TO BE IMPACTFUL, BUT ALSO IT’S GOING TO BE A HIGH UV INDEX FOR TODAY AS WELL. AS WE GO INTO THE REST OF TONIGHT INTO TOMORROW, WE’RE GOING TO SEE SOME MORE STORM CHANCES FARTHER TO THE NORTH, BUT THE BEST CHANCE FOR STORMS FOR US WILL COME IN THE AFTERNOON. THIS IS 4:00. SEEING SOME STORMS PUSH OVER AS A COLD FRONT PASSES, AND THEN THEY’LL BE MOVING DEEPER INTO THE CENTRAL PORTION OF THE STATE AND THEN INTO SOUTHERN IOWA. AS WE GO DEEPER INTO THE LATE AFTERNOON AND EVENING, THERE WILL BE A CHANCE FOR SEVERE WEATHER THREAT AS WE HEAD THROUGHOUT SUNDAY. SO ZOOMING IN, TALKING ABOUT THE COMMUNITIES THAT WILL BE IMPACTED MOST. THE STRONGEST STORMS SHOULD BE RIGHT OVER GOING TOWARDS AMES NORTH OF DES MOINES. ANKENY EVEN JUST BE ON THAT LINE AS WE LOOK FARTHER WEST. AUDUBON CARROLL TO THE NORTHEAST, IOWA FALLS, EVEN MARSHALLTOWN. THAT SHADE OF YELLOW, THAT’S A TWO OUT OF FIVE CHANCE PRIMARILY LOOKING AT HEAVY RAIN, OF COURSE, AND ALSO THOSE GUSTY STRONG WINDS. HIGHS FOR TODAY. WE ARE BACK INTO THE 90S TOMORROW. THAT’S WHENEVER THE STORM CHANCES RETURN, MAINLY IN THE AFTERNOON. THAT’S GOING TO BE WHERE THE STRONGEST STORMS ARE GOING TO BE AS WE HEAD INTO THE REST OF NEXT WEEK, HIGHS RETURN TO THE MID AND EVEN LOW 80S IN SOME SPOTS, SO A NICE TEMPERATURE DROP. NOTICE THOSE LOWS IN THE 60S. HUMIDITY IS DROPPING. YOU’RE NOT GOING TO FEEL IT. AS HARSH AS WE GO INTO MONDAY TUESDAY TEMPERATURES REBOUND A
